Quick tips to begin weight training
Weight training has many benefits such as posture, better sleep, gaining muscle mass, maintaining weight loss and boosting metabolism.
Macaroni Kid wants to provide some quick, easy, and frugal tips for you to start this process. Before you begin any exercise program, please check with your family doctor. This is always a best practice with the beginning or addition to an exercise program.
Tip #1 - No equipment is needed.
Your body weight can create several important movements such as: Burpees, lunges, squats, pushups, and sit ups can all be done without equipment. Your workout can begin today! Make sit ups even more challenging by adding a weight. This could be a bag of flour, sand , or even a soup can. See our video here.
Tip #2 - Calf raises are great exercises for defining your quads.
Tip #3 - Hydrate before, during, and after your workout.
Tip #4 - Dedicate a space in your house for your workout.
This space should be free of clutter to avoid injury. It should also be well lit.
Tip #5 - Many people find it helpful to workout with music.
Consider creating a playlist of your favorite songs. Another option is to listen to a podcast or an audio book.
Tip #6 - Although weight training does not require weights they can be an excellent enhancement.
Consider buying a discounted set at a yard sale or at a gym closure.
Tip #7 - Many items in your house can easily be used as weights.
Cans (of anything) can be used, as well as water bottles, water bottles filled with sand, or cinder blocks. I have also used a full bookbag as a weight. This is a chance to be creative!
Tip #8 - Enlist a workout buddy.
This can be done in person, at a park, or on zoom or Facetime.
Tip #9 - Find the parts of weight training that you love and stick with them.
